Severe weather forecast for Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia, NJ, Del. – NBC10 Philadelphia

The weekend will start with cloudy skies and higher temperatures, followed by heavy thunderstorms on Saturday night into Sunday.

On Sunday there will be a system with a high chance of damaging wind gusts and possibly even a tornado.

We’ve got your guide to this weekend’s weather.

What can you expect on Saturday?

Most of Saturday will be dry and mostly cloudy, but later this evening we may see strong to severe thunderstorms in the Lehigh Valley.

These storms are likely to produce tornadoes across much of central and western Pennsylvania before reaching our region.

This round of extreme weather will continue in Philadelphia after midnight and into Sunday morning.

The system is expected to weaken as it reaches southern New Jersey and northern Delaware.

The National Weather Service shared on X, previously known on Twitter, that there is a high risk of rip currents on the Jersey Shore on Saturday.

Of greater concern for our entire region are the storms expected to arrive later Sunday afternoon and evening.

Sunday heavy weather

Sunday starts out mostly cloudy but will quickly become sunny, which will prime the atmosphere for severe weather later in the day.

High temperatures on Sunday will easily reach the mid-90s, with some neighborhoods seeing temperatures soar above 100 degrees.

The storms will first begin in the Lehigh Valley after 2 p.m. before moving into Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs between 4 and 6 p.m.

The storms will eventually move into the Jersey Shore and Delaware beaches after 8 p.m

The biggest concern for Sunday’s storms is that they have a high potential for wind damage.

This system has the highest chance of producing a tornado we’ve seen so far this season.
