Inter Milan signs plan to sign Genoa star without sacrificing Argentina’s Copa America youngster

Inter Milan come up with a plan that would allow them to sign Genoa player Albert Gudmundsson, while keeping Valentin Carboni on the books.

The Iceland international is one of the leading candidates to join the Nerazzurri this summer.

Management views him as the ideal profile to complete an attacking department that already includes Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram and upcoming summer signing Mehdi Taremi.

However, Genoa are asking for €35 million to part with the 27-year-old, who made his name thanks to an excellent season at Luigi Ferrari.

In recent months, many Italian media sources have identified Carboni as a sacrificial lamb.

The 19-year-old spent his campaign on loan at Monza, with his displays promising enough to warrant a call-up from Argentina for the Copa America.

The sale of the teenager would therefore generate important amounts for the club coffers.

But according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNewsThe Nerazzurri are keen to retain the Argentinian services.

Therefore, Inter have come up with an alternative plan, which would see them sign Gudmundsson without having to sacrifice Carboni.

As the pink newspaper explains, the Italian champions want to copy the formula used to sign Davide Frattesi from Sassuolo last summer.

In other words, Inter will want to sign Gudmundsson on loan with an obligation to buy, which would allow them to postpone the cost of the transaction to the next financial year.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri should not have to sell Carboni this summer, unless the club receives an irresistible offer of more than 40 million euros.

However, the Argentina international could still leave on loan as he could struggle for playing time at San Siro.

Fiorentina already tried to sign Carboni last January, while Lazio inquired about his services earlier this month.

Furthermore, the source reveals that the teenager is requesting a salary adjustment. He currently earns 800,000 euros per season, while his contract runs until 2028.
