Coldplay at Glastonbury: Little Simz and Laura Mvula join the band for a historic headlining performance

Coldplay welcomed a host of special guests to the stage during their historic Glastonbury 2024 performance.

The British band, led by Chris Martin, played the Pyramid Stage on Saturday (June 29), a night after Dua Lipa impressed the crowd with her own headline set – despite a sound problem with the BBC broadcast.

Coldplay last took the festival’s stage in 2016, marking their fourth time headlining – and in this fifth set they become the most-ever headlining act.

To mark the occasion, Coldplay enlisted the help of other famous stars. Martin and his bandmates were joined for the first time by Spanish-American singer-songwriter Victoria Canal, who helped with vocals on “Paradise,” and they previewed a brand new collaboration with Little Simz and Burna Boy, titled “And So We Pray.”

Little Simz, who had played the Pyramid Stage hours earlier, was present for the performance, as were Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna and the Bolton String Orchestra. However, Burna Boy appeared in a VT behind them as they played.

The song will be on Coldplay’s tenth studio album. Moon Musicwhich will be released on October 4th.

Immediately after, Elyanna sang Coldplay’s song 209, “Arabesque,” together with the band and Femi Kuti, while Laura Mvula conducted a rendition of the 2008 song “Violet Hill.”

Towards the end of their set they were joined by Back to the Future actor Michael J Fox for two songs: “Humankind” and “Fix You”.

Coldplay also had a host of stars watching from the viewing platform: Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg, who co-star in the Mission: Impossible franchise, were in attendance – and in a video obtained by The independentthe pair could be seen before the performance joining the crowd in a rendition of Oasis’s “Don’t Look Back in Anger”.

Gillian Anderson was there too.

Other stars who have played the festival include Cyndi Lauper, ambitious rock band The Last Dinner Party and, with an impressive performance tainted by overcrowding, 2000s pop group Sugababes.

Their performance clashed with Disclosure on the Other Stage, Jessie Ware on the West Holts stage and Gossip on the Woodsies stage.

An eclectic lineup will perform across the sprawling festival’s stages across the weekend – but organiser Emily Eavis has played down any rumours of “big surprises”. Here’s the full Glastonbury 2024 lineup and set times.

One of the highlights of Friday was the Sugababes, but their performance on the West Holts stage drew such a crowd that there were reports of fans fainting during their show, while security blocked others from entering in an attempt to ease overcrowding.

The festival on Sunday (June 30) will close with SZA.
