Elections of chairs of NA standing committees continue

Meetings attended by members of the respective standing committees and party leaders of the PMLN, PPPP and MQM

ISLAMABAD: Dr Farooq Sattar elected chairman of National Assembly standing committee on privatisation.

Elections for the standing committees of the National Assembly continued on Friday and the chairmen of six standing committees of the National Assembly were elected unanimously.

The standing committees of the NA, namely Information Technology and Telecommunications, Commerce, Privatization and Industry and Production, elected their chairmen unanimously at their first meetings held at the Parliament House on Saturday.

The meetings were attended by members of the relevant standing committees and party leaders of the PMLN, PPPP and MQM.

The elections were conducted by Muhammad Mushtaq, Advisor (Legislation), Syed Jawad Murtaza Naqvi Additional Secretary (Committees) and Syed Haseen Raza Zaidi, Joint Secretary (Committees).

The NA Standing Committee on Privatization has appointed Dr. Farooq Sattar was elected chairman and his name was proposed by Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani and seconded by all members of the committee.

The Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunications has unanimously elected Syed Aminul Haq as its Chairman. His name was proposed by Syed Mustafa Kamal, MNA and supported by all the members of the Committee.

The Standing Committee on Trade has unanimously elected Muhammad Jawed Hanif Khan, MNA, as its Chairman. His nomination was proposed by Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig and supported by all the members of the committee.

The Standing Committees on Industry and Production unanimously elected Syed Hafeezuddin as Chairman. His name was respectively nominated by Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani and supported by all the members of the committee.

After conducting the elections, the Adviser (Legislation) congratulated the newly elected Chairmen on behalf of the NA Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary General and assured their full support in discharging their official responsibilities.

After the elections, the newly elected chairmen took their seats and thanked their party leadership and colleagues for renewing their confidence in them by electing them as chairmen of the standing committees. They hoped that, through the joint efforts of committee members, the committees would appropriately fulfill their role of parliamentary oversight of the executive.
