US: NYPD officer getting her nails done killed when speeding car crashes into salon in Long Island, nine others also injured

New York, June 30: In a tragic incident on Friday, NYPD Officer Emilia Rennhack, 30, was one of four people killed when an allegedly drunk driver crashed his minivan into a nail salon on Long Island. The driver, identified as Steven Schwally of Dix Hills, reportedly lost control of his vehicle, crashing into the salon and trapping people inside.

Rennhack, a six-year NYPD veteran, had stopped at the salon to get her nails done for a fellow officer’s wedding later that evening. Schwally was said to have been driving aggressively and yelling at people before the crash, sources said. Nine others were also injured in the crash, including a 12-year-old girl. Officials have not yet publicly identified the other victims NYPost.

Rennhack, who married fellow officer Det. Carl Rennhack in September, was remembered as a compassionate and kind person. “His wife was his life,” a police source said of the grieving husband. Photos on social media show a beaming Emilia in her wedding dress, embracing her groom. Rennhack’s mother-in-law, Holy Rennhack, expressed her sadness: “My daughter-in-law was a wonderful woman. She was very special. My son is very upset now.”

The impact left the salon in ruins. Pieces of the ceiling had collapsed, there was shards of glass everywhere and the pedicure chairs had been moved.

The Police Benevolent Association mourned Rennhack’s death, calling it a “tragic loss” and asking for prayers for her family, friends and colleagues. The Det. Simonsen Foundation, which supported the Rennhacks, also expressed deep sorrow and pledged to remember Emilia and support Carl during this devastating time.
