Flying high at the Lobero

Enjoy the moving, jazzy sounds of the great Big Band Canaries at the Lobero on Saturday 29 June

Jazz at the Ballroom’s newest show, “Flying High: Big Band Canaries Who Soared,” is dedicated to helping the Great American Songbook and swinging, classic jazz flourish. The producing organization is a California-based nonprofit that’s as much about education as it is about entertainment, and “Flying High,” which celebrates female jazz vocalists Billie Holiday, Rosemary Clooney, Ella Fitzgerald and others who started out in the big bands of the era and went on to solo careers, boasts a truly talented lineup. The two singers join musical director/bandleader/pianist Champian Fulton and her swinging band are Carmen Bradfordwho actually sang with the Count Basie Orchestra in the 80’s, and the great Jane Monheitwhose debut album at the tender age of 22 in 2000 was a wonderland. After the Lobero show, the Grammy-nominated, chart-topping solo artist with a dozen albums under her belt will be back in the clubs, singing with her quartet at Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood
next month.
