ITV Emmerdale fans file complaint after soap opera pulled from schedule again

The soap has undergone a major overhaul of late, with ITV and BBC having to adjust their programming to accommodate the 2024 European Championship. And with Wimbledon now in full swing, viewers can expect even more changes to their favourite soaps.

ITV bosses are keeping Emmerdale and Coronation Street fans up to date on these changes by posting weekly updated schedules on their official social media accounts, often announcing changes together.

Normally, episodes are postponed to a later date, or if they are taken off the schedule altogether, a double bill can be offered later in the week to make up for it. But in the first week of July, soap lovers were not so happy, with Emmerdale cancelled on Tuesday 2 July and Coronation Street having a number of episodes that did not start until 9pm.

The teams behind Emmerdale and Coronation Street shared on Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter: “Heads up, this is where you can find your soap operas this week.”

The heads-up came with a schedule that saw Emmerdale not play on Tuesday due to ITV’s coverage of Romania v Netherlands, followed by Austria v Turkey, the Express reports.

Many soap fans weighed in on the comments, with some questioning why the schedule needed to be changed at all, while others felt that a 9pm start time was too late for Coronation Street.
