Sadyr Dzhaparov calls for support for Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy for UN Security Council membership

AKIPRESS.COM – President Sadyr Dzhaparov raised the issue of Kyrgyzstan’s membership of the UN Security Council in 2026 during talks with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Cholpon-Ata today.

“Our opponent, the Philippines, was elected to the Security Council four times. Now they are trying to succeed for the fifth time. Of course, this issue will be resolved in New York. We hope that New York will support us and that Kyrgyzstan will be elected to the UN Security Council in 2026,” Sadyr Japarov said.

Currently, the UN Security Council consists of 15 members:

5 permanent members: China, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, the United States and France and ten non-permanent members elected for a two-year term:

– Algeria (2025)

– Guyana (2025)

– Malta (2024)

– Mozambique (2024)

– Republic of Korea (2025)

– Slovenia (2025)

– Sierra Leone (2025)

– Switzerland (2024)

– Ecuador (2024)

– Japan (2024).
