Orange is the New Black Star was not happy with the character’s fate

Orange is the new black was one of the most popular Netflix shows between 2013 and 2019. Five years later, one of its stars has opened up about her character’s unsatisfactory ending.

From the start of the show, Star Trek: Voyager star Kate Mulgrew played Red, a powerful figure in the prison who served as a chef and led her own gang known as Red’s Family. Towards the end of the show, Red is last seen suffering from the effects of dementia that had worsened after spending time in the Security Housing Unit (SHU). According to Collider, Mulgrew attended Fan Expo Boston, where she spoke about Red’s fate and shared that she didn’t like it — and even told series creator Jenji Kohan about it.

Daniel Radcliffe Talks About Playing ‘Ridiculably Posh English Idiot’ in Netflix’s Mulligan

EXCLUSIVE: Daniel Radcliffe shares what attracted him to his Mulligan role as a ‘ridiculously posh English idiot’.

“I don’t like it. And I told Jenji I didn’t like it. No, I didn’t like itMulgrew said.Jenji knew that my mother died that way. I haven’t seen it in red. I have to be honest with you, I didn’t see it in her strength, her courage, her courage, her sharpness, her sharpness, her heart, her sensitivity, her strategic insight, I didn’t see it in her culinary gift. It was not represented. Was she ever presented as an eccentric personality? Not really. (She puts on a Russian accent) Of course she was very eccentric, she was a rotten prisoner with red hair who cut off people’s heads and did things like that, trying to find the chicken. (drops accent) But that wasn’t her.”

“Jenji knew my mother died that way. I haven’t seen it in Red.’

Mulgrew continued, “So, I thought it was a bit rushed … If you’re going that way, let me just play with the audience for a minute to play it, you know what I mean? I felt a little…disappointed, I guess, but that’s fair, it’s okay. For the most part, acting is just work. You’ll never get what you really want because you’re not in charge. Unless you’re, you know, George Clooney.

The three-body problem is getting a new adaptation amid Netflix’s success

Liu Cixin’s best-selling series has proven to be an invaluable IP with several tweaks.

Mulgrew went on to talk about how her presence as Red was “naturally diminished” after the first three seasons. She said this just came about after more and more series regulars were added with each new season. Mulgrew emphasized that she’s glad she played such a big role in the show’s early days, although she admitted her ego took a hit from being less in the spotlight as time went on.

Kate Mulgrew had “Three Great Seasons” from Orange Is the New Black

I’ve had three great seasons and, as you know, it was a game changer,” she said. ‘Was I sad because I didn’t have much to do in 4 and 5? Of course, because we are full of ego. We are really full of ego. I would very much like to die without it. That’s my purpose in life.”

The prison drama series is based on the book by Piper Kerman Orange is the new black: my year in a women’s prison. Other members of the ensemble cast included Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, Uzo Aduba, Danielle Brooks, Natasha Lyonne, Taryn Manning, Samira Wiley, Laverne Cox, Selenis Leyva, Jackie Cruz, Yael Stone and Dascha Polanco.
